President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been urged by the Ghana Revenue Authority to permit Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited to carry out revenue assurance operations while inquiries into the contract’s feasibility are ongoing.

The continuance, according to the tax collecting and administration authority, is necessary to make sure the state doesn’t lose money during the audit period.

The petition was sent to the President by Rev. Dr. Ammisshaddai Owusu-Amoah, the Commissioner-General of GRA, in a letter dated January 16.

It was in response to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s order to halt the contract with SML to guarantee revenue for the GRA while KPMG, an accounting and auditing firm, conducted an investigation into the agreement.

Payments to SML under the terms of the contract were part of the instruction to stop the agreement.

The GRA Commissioner-General stated that although the President has ordered the suspension of the contract and payments to SML, work still needed to be done to make sure the state did not lose money during the audit period.
