Legendary Ghanaian boxer Azumah Nelson received a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and an unknown financial package from Ibrahim Mahama, a Ghanaian businessman and President Mahama’s brother, in appreciation of his contributions to the sport and the country’s progress.

Following a courtesy call hosted by British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua and Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and son of President John Dramani Mahama, the presentation was held at Mr. Mahama’s office in Accra on Monday, June 16.

Before visiting President Mahama at Jubilee House and thanking him for his support, the delegation had previously taken part in the Battle of the Beasts boxing competition at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Friday, June 13.

Mr. Mahama referred to Azumah Nelson as “arguably Africa’s greatest boxer” and stated that the gesture was intended to honor Nelson’s exceptional accomplishments in the ring as well as his continuous work teaching young people and advancing sports development in Ghana.

Azumah Nelson conveyed his gratitude for the recognition. He expressed his gratitude to Ibrahim Mahama and Sharaf Mahama for this unanticipated act.

“I was simply here to support Sharaf and his commitment to boxing, a sport I have dedicated my life to.”

Anthony Joshua’s team, sports entrepreneur Yaw Sakyi Afari of RITE Sports, businessman Henry Quarshie, Legacy Rise Sports employees, and close friends of Ibrahim Mahama were all in attendance.

Ibrahim Mahama, the founder of Dzata Cement Limited and Engineers and Planners, is well-known for his charitable endeavors in the fields of infrastructure development, sports, and education.

His larger goal of promoting national heroes and elevating sports in Ghana is in line with the donation.

The Battle of the Beasts boxing competition, which attracted a lot of attention from the public and beyond, was a part of a larger initiative to promote Ghanaian boxing and honor its history through elite athletic participation.
