The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has called on the government of Ghana to prioritise manufacturing, agricultural productivity and private-sector financing to ensure that economic growth translates into job creation, higher household incomes and improved living standards.

ISSER Director, Professor Robert Darko Osei, said Ghana needs to focus on inclusive economic growth that creates employment opportunities and delivers tangible benefits to ordinary citizens.

Speaking at the launch of the 2025 State of the Ghanaian Economy Report, Professor Osei emphasised the importance of strengthening productive sectors of the economy to improve livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.

He explained that sustained economic growth could accelerate income growth, create more jobs and improve the financial well-being of households if supported by policies that encourage productive investment.

ISSER Calls for Stronger Manufacturing and Agricultural Growth

ISSER identified manufacturing and agriculture as key sectors that could help Ghana generate more employment and strengthen its economic foundation.

Improving agricultural productivity could support food production, reduce business costs and provide raw materials for local industries. Similarly, expanding manufacturing and agro-processing could increase value addition, boost domestic production and create jobs for young people.

The institute also highlighted the importance of improving access to financing for private businesses. Affordable credit and increased investment could help local enterprises expand operations, improve productivity and contribute more significantly to national development.

The recommendations form part of broader discussions on Ghana’s economic performance and the need to ensure that economic growth produces measurable improvements in living standards.
