Nigerian billionaire and Azikel Group President, Dr. Azibapu Eruani, is developing a $1 billion oil refinery in Bayelsa State, a project expected to strengthen Nigeria’s domestic fuel production and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.

The Azikel Refinery is projected to produce approximately 2.5 million litres of petrol and 2 million litres of diesel daily when it becomes fully operational.

The investment represents a major industrial development initiative with the potential to create jobs, expand local refining capacity and support Nigeria’s energy sector.

Obasanjo Urges Completion of Azikel Refinery

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has praised Dr. Eruani’s investment and challenged him to complete the refinery project within 12 months.

His call highlights the importance of timely project delivery in expanding Nigeria’s petroleum infrastructure and improving the availability of locally refined fuel.

$1 Billion Refinery Could Support Nigeria’s Economic Growth

The Azikel Refinery is expected to contribute to job creation, industrial development and increased domestic production of petroleum products.

By expanding local refining capacity, the project could help reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petrol and diesel, potentially ease pressure on foreign exchange demand and strengthen the country’s energy security.

The investment could also generate opportunities for local suppliers, contractors, transport operators and other businesses connected to the oil and gas industry.

As Nigeria continues to pursue greater energy independence, projects such as the Azikel Refinery highlight the role private-sector investment can play in developing domestic industries and supporting long-term economic growth.
