All government employees who have official vehicles in their possession are required by the Office of the President to handover them by January 3, 2025.
The instruction, issued as the present administration draws to a close, restates the policy regarding the purchase of government vehicles.
The President’s Office reminded outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides to the President and Vice President, and other political appointees of the established regulations regarding the use of government vehicles in a statement released by Jubilee House’s Communications Directorate.
Political appointees are not allowed to purchase government vehicles under the regulation, which was initially implemented in 2020 after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term. Under President Akufo-Addo’s government, the practice of allowing appointees to acquire a single official saloon vehicle has been abandoned, in contrast to prior administrations.
The decision, which is in full force as the President finishes his second and last term, demonstrates the government’s dedication to maintaining responsibility and prudent use of public funds.
All Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides, and other political appointments, including those on Statutory Boards and Corporations, are subject to the instruction, the announcement further explained.
As the present administration transitions, the Office of the President has urged all impacted appointees to work together to uphold this crucial step.
