After Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta agreed to voluntarily return to Ghana for interrogation, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) formally removed him from its list of wanted individuals.

Ofori-Atta, who was placed under investigation for alleged corruption-related offenses and declared wanted on February 12, 2025, for failing to provide a reasonable return date, contacted his attorneys on February 18, 2025, to confirm a particular date for his return.

The OSP, under the direction of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, thought the given timescale was appropriate and has since postponed Ofori-Atta’s presence for interrogation.

The office of the Special Prosecutor stated that Ofori-Atta’s new position was a “significant change” from his previous one of remaining outside Ghana indefinitely.

In a news release, the OSP said, “Consequently, Mr. Ofori-Atta has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons and the OSP ceases to consider Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice pending his voluntary return to the jurisdiction,”

The OSP did, however, issue a warning that he would be instantly placed back on the wanted list if he did not return as promised.

The statement went on to say, “If Mr. Ofori-Atta fails to voluntarily return to the jurisdiction on his stated date, and if he fails to attend the OSP on the rescheduled date, he shall be re-entered on the OSP’s list of wanted persons.”

The office is committed to maintaining due process, accountability, and equity in all of its investigations, the Special Prosecutor underlined.
