Kurt Okraku has received commendation from Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, following his appointment as the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) second vice president.

The Sports Minister called Kurt Okraku’s appointment a “historic” accomplishment and a proud occasion for Ghana in a statement.

“This prestigious appointment is not only a personal milestone but also a powerful recognition of your dedication to football development,” he said.

“Your new role offers Ghana an enhanced voice and a stronger platform in continental football governance.”

A new generation of Ghanaian and African sports leaders would be motivated to strive for greatness and worldwide influence by Mr. Okraku’s leadership, the minister said.

Additionally, he praised Mr. Okraku for his creative initiatives, which have established a solid basis for Ghanaian football’s future. These initiatives include the “Catch Them Young” refereeing scheme, the creation of zonal football academies, and grassroots talent discovery activities.

Kofi Adams said he hoped that Mr. Okraku’s new role at CAF will present even more chances to strengthen the domestic game’s renaissance, revitalize the Ghana Premier League, support women’s football, and develop the nation’s youth.

As Mr. Okraku collaborates with stakeholders to propel African football to new heights and restore Ghana’s standing in the international football community, he promised the ministry’s unwavering support.

“Congratulations once again, Mr. President. We are proud of you and wish you every success in this distinguished role,” he Adams concluded.

Ahmed Yahya was succeeded by Okraku, who was nominated by Motsepe and overwhelmingly confirmed by the CAF Executive Committee in March.

Under Motsepe’s presidency, Okraku becomes a member of a diversified leadership team.

First Vice-President Faouzi Lekjaa takes Senegal’s Augustine Senghor’s seat. As the third vice president, Pierre-Alain Mounguengui represents Central Africa and uses a grassroots, diplomatic strategy to incorporate the area into African football as a whole.

Bestine Kazadi Ditabala, the fourth vice president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is a trailblazing female leader who highlights CAF’s dedication to gender inclusivity through her administrative and legal experience. Mozambique’s fifth vice president, Feizal Sidat, ensures strong Southern African representation with his wealth of expertise as the previous president of the Mozambican Football Federation.
