Kwesi Nyantakyi, a former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has formally announced his plan to compete in the next by-election in the Ejisu seat.
John Kumah, the previous MP, recently passed away, which led to this conclusion.
Nyantakyi claimed that Mr. Kumah’s untimely departure was akin to replacing “Cristiano Ronaldo,” who can only be replaced by a player of comparable caliber, such as “Lionel Messi.”
He claimed to have reached the peak of Ghanaian sports and that it was now time for him to apply his skills and knowledge to advance the interests of the populace in politics.
Tuesday, April 2, Kwesi Nyantakyi discussed his main priorities if elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu in an interview with Captain Smart. He pledged to bring Ghanaian football back to life, a field he headed around six years ago when he was the GFA’s head of operations.
He emphasized his vast background as a former President of the GFA, calling himself a “insider” who is familiar with the nuances of football administration.
In addition, Nyantakyi highlighted his legal training, expressing his goal to use his legal knowledge to make a substantial contribution to the advancement of football and sports in general.
Following a period of sanctions from different football regulatory bodies because of accusations of corruption, Nyantakyi has returned to football administration.
These claims first came to light after Tiger Eye PI published an exposé that caused Nyantakyi to resign from his positions as football’s captain.
Following the opening of nominations on Tuesday, April 2, the NPP has scheduled Saturday, April 13, 2024, for the election of a Parliamentary Candidate for the Ejisu seat by-election.
A date for the by-election has not yet been announced by the Electoral Commission.
