Lil Win, a well-known Kumawood actor, has expressed his desire to run as an independent in the 2024 general elections for the Ashanti region’s Afigya Kwabre South seat.

The musician and comedian, real name Kwadwo Nkansah, claims that he is making the change in response to numerous requests from the traditional leaders and constituents who have been expressing confidence in his abilities to represent the constituency currently represented by William Owuraku Aidoo of the New Patriotic Party.

Following multiple inquiries starting in October 2022, Lil Win revealed his intention in an interview with Okay FM from Accra.

He revealed that although though he was first uninterested, he has now totally accepted the request after being approached by his mother and other close relatives to persuade him.

“My supporters think that by establishing my school, Great Minds, in the district, I will be a strong leader and better able to look out for their interests.

“They are convinced that even with the little resources, I have been able to do many projects for the area, including a school, and that I can help them greatly when I have a lot of resources at my disposal,” he said.

Lil Win recently revealed that former President John Mahama had encouraged him to stay out of politics, which may have surprised many of his fans who have known him for years.

He did, however, emphasize that he has always maintained his neutrality in order to avoid offending supporters of the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Mahama’s counsel further encouraged him to remain loyal to his convictions.

During the 2016 campaign, I got the chance to speak with NDC and NPP members. I was instructed not to accept any contribution to help a political party by former president John Mahama, he claimed.
