On Feb. 7, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama met with Claudio Descalzi, the CEO of Eni, in Accra to talk about the company’s present and upcoming operations in Ghana.

Throughout the discussion, Mr. Descalzi emphasized the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project’s accomplishments, which make it the biggest private investment in Ghana’s energy sector.

First oil was produced in 2017 and first gas in 2018, and the project was finished on time and within budget.

Interestingly, the OCTP contributes roughly 70% of Ghana’s gas production and is only used for domestic use.

The conversations also included Eni’s goals for economic diversification in Ghana as well as possible short- and medium-term exploration and development options.

Since 2009, Eni has operated in Ghana, holding a 44.4% share in the OCTP project, in collaboration with Vitol (35.6%) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (20%).

In addition to its energy projects, Eni is working on projects that address economic diversification, training, energy accessibility, and water and sanitation access.

With the goal of strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure and looking into opportunities for sustainable economic growth, this meeting highlights the continued cooperation between the Ghanaian government and Eni.
