President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting local manufacturing, expanding industrial production and creating jobs for Ghanaian youth following a working visit to Three Dreamer Manufacturing Company in Tema, Greater Accra Region.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, highlighted the importance of Ghanaian-owned and locally operating manufacturing businesses in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities and reducing dependence on imported goods.
Three Dreamer Manufacturing Company produces and distributes a wide range of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), including diapers, sanitary pads, toilet rolls, non-dairy creamers, biscuits, candies, fish snacks known as aborbi, beef snacks, LED bulbs and canned food products.
Mahama Commends Three Dreamer Manufacturing Company for Supporting Ghana’s Economy
During his address, President Mahama praised the management and employees of Three Dreamer Manufacturing Company for their contribution to Ghana’s industrial development.
He encouraged the company to sustain its production activities, expand its operations and explore new business opportunities in other African countries.
According to the President, Ghanaian manufacturers have the potential to serve both the domestic market and international customers by producing quality goods locally and exporting them across the continent.
He cited products such as canned tomatoes and LED light bulbs manufactured by the company as examples of goods that Ghana can produce locally for domestic consumption and export to other African markets.
President Mahama stressed that supporting local industries would help generate business revenue, strengthen the national economy and create sustainable employment for young people.
Mahama Says 24-Hour Economy Will Expand Existing Factories
President Mahama also highlighted the role of the government’s proposed 24-Hour Economy policy in supporting industrial expansion, increasing productivity and creating employment opportunities.
He recalled that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised to implement the policy in its 2024 election manifesto.
According to him, Three Dreamer Manufacturing Company demonstrates how existing manufacturing businesses can contribute to the objectives of the 24-Hour Economy by expanding production and providing jobs.
The President explained that the policy is not limited to establishing new factories but also involves helping existing businesses increase production capacity, extend operating hours where appropriate and recruit additional workers.
He noted that factories already operating in Ghana could play a significant role in generating employment if they receive the necessary support to grow their businesses.
President Mahama observed that without manufacturing companies such as Three Dreamer, many young people currently employed at the facility might otherwise be without jobs.
He therefore called for continued investment in local manufacturing as part of broader efforts to address youth unemployment and improve livelihoods.
AfCFTA Offers Ghanaian Manufacturers Access to African Markets
The President further emphasised the opportunities available to Ghanaian businesses under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
He said the continental trade agreement provides an important platform for local manufacturers seeking to expand beyond Ghana and reach consumers across Africa.
According to President Mahama, increased exports of locally manufactured goods can create jobs, increase business earnings and strengthen Ghana’s position in regional trade.
He encouraged manufacturers to take advantage of opportunities within the African market by improving production capacity and developing products that can compete effectively with goods from other countries.
Expanding exports could also help Ghanaian businesses diversify their revenue sources and contribute to the country’s industrialisation agenda.
Mahama Urges Workers to Support Business Growth
President Mahama expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by the young employees working at Three Dreamer Manufacturing Company.
He encouraged workers to remain disciplined, productive and dedicated to their responsibilities, explaining that the success of a manufacturing business depends on both management and employees.
The President urged staff members to support their employers in improving business performance and increasing revenue, noting that profitable and expanding businesses are better positioned to recruit more workers and provide additional opportunities.
He explained that when companies grow, employees and the wider community can also benefit through increased employment and economic activity.
His remarks highlighted the importance of cooperation between business owners, management and workers in building sustainable manufacturing industries in Ghana.
Mahama Highlights Expansion in Ghana’s Manufacturing Sector
The President also referred to an earlier visit to Nestlé Ghana Limited, where he witnessed the expansion of production lines.
He said developments at existing factories demonstrate how businesses can respond to improving economic conditions and emerging opportunities by investing in additional production capacity.
According to him, supporting existing industries to expand is an important part of Ghana’s economic transformation and job creation strategy.
The government, he said, has a responsibility to establish an enabling business environment in which companies can increase production, attract investment and employ more people.
Government Pledges Stable Economy to Support Businesses
President Mahama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing policies aimed at strengthening the Ghanaian cedi, sustaining economic stability and creating favourable conditions for business growth.
He noted that inflation had declined and said the government was working to maintain economic stability to encourage businesses to invest and expand their operations.
The President explained that a stronger and more predictable economic environment could improve investor confidence, support industrial development and encourage private-sector investment.
He added that stable economic conditions would help manufacturers plan for the future, increase output and create additional employment opportunities.
Outlook for Ghana’s Industrial Development
The visit to Three Dreamer Manufacturing Company underscores the government’s focus on local production, industrial growth, youth employment and export development.
With initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy and opportunities under AfCFTA, Ghanaian manufacturers have the potential to expand their operations, reach new markets and contribute more significantly to the national economy.
The long-term impact will depend on effective policy implementation, business investment, workforce productivity and the ability of local companies to compete in domestic and international markets.
