Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) Managing Director Ceasar Kale has reported that, despite operating with fewer buses, the transport company’s monthly revenue has increased from an average of GH¢8.7 million to GH¢13 million.

Mr. Kale discussed ongoing turnaround initiatives aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness, revenue collection, and customer service in a radio interview with Class FM on Monday [October 6, 2025].

He credited the income increase to a number of significant interventions, such as the implementation of digital ticketing systems, improved route management, and stringent oversight to stop money leaks across MMT depots across the country.

“Pilfering has significantly reduced,” he noted. “While my predecessors were routing around 160 buses daily, we are currently operating with 115 to 129 buses. Yet, through prudent management and innovation, we’ve managed to grow our monthly revenue substantially.”

According to Mr. Kale, the company’s revenue has consistently been depleted by revenue leaks, especially those involving drivers and conductors.

These losses have been reduced, though, by automation and new controls.

He disclosed that “Our parcel division, which had just 40% coverage, is now automated and operating at nearly 98% coverage nationwide, yes, some revenue may still be lost, but it’s now insignificant compared to what we inherited.”

He stated that MMT is working to modernise its operations and increase its fleet, with new buses anticipated as part of government-sponsored projects meant to bolster Ghana’s public transportation industry.

Mr Kale was upbeat about MMT’s financial recovery, saying that long-term upgrades will allow for improved service delivery and help the government achieve its larger goal of giving all Ghanaians access to reasonably priced, dependable, and efficient public transportation.
