The case of the seven-year-old Mamobi girl who sustained severe burns after reportedly being punished for bedwetting is being closely monitored by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

Since the incident was reported about two months ago, the Ministry has been interacting with the family and keeping an eye on the child’s welfare.

Officers from the Social Protection Directorate and the Domestic Violence Secretariat have kept in touch with the victim’s family in accordance with the directive of Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, to make sure she gets the support and care she needs while recovering.

The Minister specifically directed the Director of the Social Protection Directorate and the Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat to visit the family as part of these efforts in order to assess the child’s current condition, make sure that all of her recovery and well-being needs are sufficiently met, and reassure the family of the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to supporting them throughout the process.

The Ministry reiterated its dedication to making sure that this case, as well as any reported situations of abuse, are thoroughly investigated through the proper procedures to their rational conclusion.
