Kwame Ohene Frimpong, the Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North Constituency, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands, according to confirmation from Parliament.
The House said it had been officially informed of the incident and is currently contacting Ghana’s foreign office in The Hague for more information, according to a statement released by Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror.
The statement states that the mission to determine the circumstances behind the imprisonment of the Independent Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency is in close communication with the Rt. Hon. Speaker and Parliamentary leadership.
“It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Hon Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at the Schipol Airport, Amsterdam in the Netherlands.”
“The Rt Hon Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague for detailed information on the matter. The public will be duly informed appropriately on this matter.,” the statement said.
The public was reassured by Parliament that further information will be shared when it became available.
