MTN Ghana has notified its Mobile Money (MoMo) customers that on Sunday, August 17, 2025, there will be a six-hour service outage.
The outage, which is scheduled to last from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., is required to perform a crucial system upgrade, according to the business.
All MoMo-related services, such as merchant payments, transfers, withdrawals, and deposits, will not be accessible during this time.
In an interview with Citi FM in Accra, Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology & Service Delivery Officer at Mobile Money Limited, gave an explanation of the change.
“Please be informed of a planned system upgrade on 17th August 2025, from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. During this period, all Mobile Money services will be unavailable.
“This upgrade is to improve our services to you. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused, and thank you for your understanding,” he informed customers.
Performance will be improved, fraud protection will be strengthened, and the groundwork for future digital advances will be laid, according to MTN. Similar maintenance tasks have previously increased dependability and sped up transaction processing.
The telecom behemoth has promised consumers that all accounts will be protected throughout the procedure and that services will start up again as soon as the update time ends.
MTN has advised customers to finish essential transactions in advance to prevent delays. A sizable amount of everyday economic activity may be impacted by the temporary suspension in a nation where MTN Mobile Money is a major financial lifeline for both people and companies.
Every month, the platform handles transactions totaling billions of cedis and is essential to the advancement of financial inclusion.
