Twelve 20-foot shipping containers containing a significant number of Ghanaian cedis and US dollars, including counterfeits, were discovered and confiscated by the National Security.

The containers were tracked to a warehouse in Ofankor, Ga South Municipality, where a special operation was carried out on a tip-off, according to a National Security statement.

It stated that the shrewdly hidden cash, primarily US dollar bundles, was discovered in cement-filled wooden crates.

It claimed that additional currency hidden in the plywood-barricaded, charcoal-sealed boxes was discovered when other boxes in the facility were uncovered during the sting operation.

Two containers were still at large, but state security trackers were pursuing them, according to the statement from the National Security agents involved in the operation.

A manhunt for four individuals, including a ringleader who goes as Alhaji, is currently in progress.

“The warehouse yielded even more shocking discoveries, including boxes of metals suspected to be gold bars, counterfeit Ghana cedi notes in 50 and 100 denominations, and fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots,” it said.
