The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially scheduled its 2026 National Executive Elections for October 3, 2026, with nominations expected to open on August 17.
The election timetable was announced by the NPP National Elections Committee, chaired by Frederick Opare-Ansah, as the party begins preparations to elect its next national leadership.
NPP Election 2026: Key Dates
According to the timetable, NPP nominations will open on August 17 and close on August 22, 2026. Candidates will then file their nominations between August 23 and August 27.
The NPP vetting process will take place from August 31 to September 3, with the results scheduled for publication on September 5.
Aspirants who are dissatisfied with the vetting results will have September 6 and 7 to submit appeals.
The party’s NEC/NC meeting is scheduled for September 10, followed by the publication of the notice of poll on September 14. The NPP National Executive Elections will be held on October 3.

Requirements for NPP Aspirants
The NPP says prospective candidates must be active and registered members of the party for at least two years and must be in good standing.
Aspirants must also have paid their party membership dues for at least two years, paid the required nomination fees and satisfied the National Vetting Committee that they meet the qualifications for the position they seek.
Candidates are additionally required to obtain endorsements from at least one qualified member from each of Ghana’s 16 regions.
For the position of NPP National Youth Organiser, candidates must be below 40 years.
Members of the NPP National Elections Committee are not eligible to contest in the elections. Any committee member who wishes to become an aspirant must first be replaced by the National Executive Committee.
NPP Election Nomination Fees
The party has announced different nomination form fees based on the national position being contested.
The NPP National Chairman nomination form costs GH¢50,000, while Vice Chairperson aspirants will pay GH¢30,000. The nomination form for the General Secretary position is priced at GH¢25,000.
Forms for other national executive positions cost GH¢10,000, while aspirants for the party’s special wings—Nasara, Women and Youth—will pay GH¢8,000.
Payments can be made in cash or by cheque at the NPP national headquarters at Asylum Down.
Positions Up for Election
The October 3 NPP elections will cover several key national leadership positions, including:
- National Chairperson
- National Vice Chairpersons
- General Secretary
- National Treasurer
- National Organiser
- National Women Organiser
- National Youth Organiser
- National Nasara Organiser
- National Communication Director
The Electoral Commission (EC) is expected to conduct the elections under the supervision of the NPP National Elections Committee and in accordance with the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).
NPP Vetting and Appeals Process
The party has established separate committees to manage the vetting and appeals processes.
The National Vetting Committee is chaired by former Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah, while the Appeals Committee is headed by former Attorney-General Joe Ghartey.
Any aspirant or party member dissatisfied with a vetting decision may petition the Appeals Committee. The committee is expected to determine such cases within 48 hours.
A further appeal can be submitted to the NPP National Executive Committee, whose decision will be considered final and binding.
Who Will Vote in the NPP National Elections?
The NPP National Delegates Conference will use an electoral college made up of representatives from various party structures.
The electoral college will include members of the National Council and National Executive Committee, regional and constituency executives, external branch executives and members of the National Council of Elders.
Other eligible delegates include the National TESCON Coordinator, TESCON presidents from recognised tertiary institutions, 30 elected national patrons, founding members who signed the party’s registration documents, NPP Members of Parliament and representatives of the party’s special wings.
For the special wing elections, female delegates will elect the National Women Organiser, while youth delegates, including TESCON presidents, will vote for the National Youth Organiser.
The National Nasara Organiser will be elected by Nasara coordinators and their deputies at the national, regional, constituency, external branch and TESCON levels.
The NPP has also stated that at least one-third of delegates to the National Delegates Conference must be present to form a quorum.
The October 3, 2026 election is therefore expected to be a major event in the NPP’s internal democratic process as the party prepares to select its next national executive leadership.
