A member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) was injured in an exchange of gunfire with illegal miners during an operation in the Bono Region on Tuesday.
According to a press statement issued Tuesday night, the event occurred in a thicket along the Subinkurom-Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality in the Bono Region.
According to the Ministry, “armed thugs, who were hiding in the bushes, opened fire on sighting the NAIMOS task force.”
“This led to an exchange of gunfire, during which one NAIMOS personnel sustained a gunshot injury,” it added.
The wounded officer is currently receiving treatment at the St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro.
One of the attackers who started shooting at the NAIMOS task force was shot and killed during the altercation, it has been explained.
When the deceased, named as Abuu Ibrahim, arrived at St. Matthew Catholic Hospital, he was declared dead.
