A cab driver was shot dead at Tetegu, near Weija, in the Greater Accra Region, after an interaction with a policewoman, the Ghana Police Service has said.
The incident happened on Monday, January 19, 2026.
According to a press statement published by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Police on January 20, the policewoman involved was also injured and is being treated in a hospital.
According to authorities, preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting occurred during an altercation between the two.
The cab driver, who was driving a Hyundai i10, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Police Hospital.
The policewoman was hurt while trying to flee the scene, according to a news release from acting Director-General of Public Affairs and Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah.
According to the statement, “Investigation further indicates that the policewoman was hit by a vehicle and sustained injuries to her head and both legs as she attempted to leave the scene. She is currently on admission receiving medical attention.”
One live 9mm bullet, a magazine, and a spent 9mm cartridge were among the exhibits recovered from the site, according to the police.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are still underway, according to the Ghana Police Service, and updates will be given as they go.
Both the policewoman and the deceased driver’s identities have not yet been made public.
