The Pamprom–First Light road will be temporarily closed to facilitate construction works under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project, as the government intensifies efforts to improve flood control and develop resilient infrastructure in Greater Accra.
The road closure will directly affect westbound motorists travelling towards First Light Junction from Korle Bu, Graphic Road, Obetsebi Lamptey Circle, Kwame Nkrumah Circle and other adjoining routes.
Motorists using the affected corridor will be required to follow a designated traffic diversion route through Awudome Cemetery Road, New Times Road, Awudome Roundabout, Oblogo and Mataheko, before reconnecting with the main road at First Light Junction.
Dr Kojo Ohene Sato, GARID Project Coordinator, disclosed that the diversion forms part of the traffic management arrangements for the project.
The GARID initiative is focused on addressing flooding in Greater Accra, upgrading drainage infrastructure and improving the resilience of communities vulnerable to heavy rainfall and flooding.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance, follow traffic signs and use the approved diversion routes to reduce congestion and ensure road safety during the construction period.
