Parts of Accra’s Madina Market were destroyed by fire on Wednesday night.

Firefighters from the Ghana National incident Service responded quickly to the incident, which broke out at around 9:00 p.m., arriving on the scene in tandem to put out the flames.

About fifty stalls have perished in the fire, according to state broadcaster GBC, while the precise cause is still unknown.

In Ghana, market fires are not uncommon.

Large marketplaces like Kejetia in Kumasi and Agbogbloshie in Accra occasionally experience catastrophic fire tragedies.
