He noted that while musicians sometimes appear at events simply to fulfil professional obligations, the atmosphere at Pat Thomas’ birthday celebration appeared different, with the performers showing genuine appreciation and admiration for the veteran singer.
Artists Pay Tribute to Highlife Legend
Several performers used the occasion to reflect on their longstanding relationships with Pat Thomas and his influence on Ghana’s music industry.
Some musicians recalled meeting and working with him many years ago, describing him as an inspirational colleague who contributed significantly to Ghanaian music.
Other performers acknowledged the influence of Pat Thomas’ music on their own careers, explaining that his songs formed part of the musical foundation that inspired them as they developed into established artistes.
Although many of the performers have become successful musicians in their own right, they took the opportunity to perform some of Pat Thomas’ classic songs before entertaining the audience with selections from their own repertoires.

Pat Thomas Performs ‘Sika Ye Mogya’
Pat Thomas attended the celebration with his wife, Naana, and expressed appreciation for the numerous tributes and warm birthday wishes.
The veteran musician performed only one song during the concert — “Sika Ye Mogya.”
He delivered the song with emotion as he thanked the musicians, friends, fans and other guests who came to celebrate his 80th birthday.
The performance became one of the emotional highlights of the evening, reflecting the strong connection between Pat Thomas and generations of Ghanaian music lovers.
Bessa Band Delivers Highlife Performance
The Bessa Band also played a major role in the successful birthday celebration, opening its performance with an energetic 20-minute non-stop highlife music session.
The band subsequently backed most of the artistes who performed during the concert.
The only exception was Australia-based Ras Minano, who opened the evening alongside his Hope of Africa Band, setting the tone for a night dedicated to music, celebration and tributes to one of Ghana’s respected musical figures.
