Yesterday evening, President John Dramani Mahama welcomed Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson at his house and expressed gratitude for his willingness to deliver the sermon at the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.
“If the President of your country calls, you can’t say no,” Cardinal Turkson replied.
He emphasized once more how important it is for the government and the church to support and guide our democracy and progress.
He said that the Catholic Church already has a pilot project in Nigeria and would soon reproduce it in other countries, highlighting the new opportunity for the church to use its own structures to promote sustainability.
Cardinal Turkson thanked President Mahama for asking him to preach at the Thanksgiving Service after arriving in Accra today.
The first of several Christian and Muslim prayers and Thanksgiving is set for today, Tuesday, marking President Mahama’s declaration of July 1st as a national day of prayer and gratitude.
