The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (POAG) has declared that all potential pilgrims to Hajj 2026 must undergo an obligatory medical examination before their visa applications can be processed.

The requirement is part of measures to verify that pilgrims meet the health eligibility standards set out by the Saudi Ministry of Health and the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

According to a statement signed by POAG’s Head of Medicals, Dr. Alhaji Abdul Samad Tanko, and shared with The Ghanaian Times, the Ghana Hajj Medical Team, in partnership with certified health institutions, would conduct examinations at all accredited centres across the country.

A physical examination, a review of medical, surgical, and drug histories, as well as a number of laboratory and diagnostic tests, will all be part of the screening procedure, according to the statement.

These include an electrocardiogram (ECG), a full blood count, a renal function test, a liver function test, blood sugar testing (FBS and HbA1c), a urine pregnancy test where appropriate, and any additional tests that medical professionals think essential.

It also recommended prospective pilgrims to contact their accredited Hajj brokers for information on schedules and designated centres, and asked that applicants stick to their given deadlines to ensure a seamless process.

POAG promised that all medical records would be kept strictly confidential, and that the Certificate of Medical Fitness provided following the test is an essential prerequisite for Hajj visa application and approval.
