A prospective pilgrim from Ghana died away in Mecca during this year’s Hajj journey, according to the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG).

The deceased, identified as Mr. Musah Sidi, 53, fainted while performing Tawaf at the Haram and died shortly after, according to a statement released by PAOG on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Walking around the Holy Kaaba as part of Islamic worship during the Hajj and Umrah is known as tawaf.

The statement claims that although arrangements were being made for Janaza prayers following Jummah prayers prior to burial, the deceased’s family has been notified.

According to the Pilgrims Affairs Office, a pilgrim’s death during devotion is considered a fortunate end in Islamic custom.

“Passing away while performing Tawaf is considered a profound blessing and a sign of a beautiful ending for a blessed Muslim,” the statement noted.

Additionally, PAOG prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness on the deceased and offered condolences to the grieving family, sympathisers, and loved ones.

Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Director of Communications of Ghana’s Pilgrims Affairs Office, signed the statement.
