Tung-Teiya Ayisha Dahamani, popularly known as Teiya and winner of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) 2022, has voiced her disappointment over the Fashion Night event held as part of the pageant’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

In a video shared on social media before it was later deleted, the former beauty queen, who represented the Northern Region, expressed concern about the quality of fashion showcased during the highly anticipated event.

Speaking candidly, Teiya said she expected a much higher standard for the milestone edition of Ghana’s Most Beautiful, especially considering the significant prize package attached to the competition.

“Ghana’s Most Beautiful is celebrating 20 years. It’s a legacy year, and the expectations were high. The GH¢200,000 prize package alone shows that this is a serious competition. What we witnessed on Fashion Night was disappointing,” she stated.

The former GMB winner revealed that she rarely comments publicly on the pageant but felt compelled to speak because of the importance of the anniversary edition.

According to her, viewers were expecting outstanding fashion designs, creativity and memorable runway moments that would reflect the prestige of the long-running beauty pageant.

Teiya noted that while several contestants showed promise, some were unable to fully showcase their potential because of the outfits designed for them.

“I expected exceptional and jaw-dropping designs. Some contestants are great models, but their designs did not help them stand out. That was unfortunate to watch,” she explained.

The beauty queen stressed that her criticism was not directed at the contestants, adding that she intentionally avoided mentioning names out of respect for those competing in the reality show.

She further clarified that the organisers of Ghana’s Most Beautiful should not be blamed for the outcome of the Fashion Night event. Instead, she believes fashion designers had the responsibility to deliver creative and high-quality outfits worthy of the pageant’s landmark 20th anniversary.

“This is not the fault of the organisers. The designers were expected to bring exceptional designs for such a historic occasion. We needed something extraordinary, not basic,” she added.

Teiya’s remarks have generated widespread discussion across social media platforms, with many fans of Ghana’s Most Beautiful agreeing that the Fashion Night segment did not meet expectations for the pageant’s landmark celebration.

The debate continues online as viewers, fashion enthusiasts and pageant followers share their opinions on the quality of designs featured during the GMB 20th Anniversary Fashion Night.
