Residents and businesses in several parts of Greater Accra are expected to experience a 15-hour power outage on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) undertakes emergency transmission tower replacement works.

The scheduled power interruption will run from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and affect communities within the Accra West and Accra East operational areas of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

According to GRIDCo, the exercise is necessary to enable engineers to safely complete the replacement of a transmission tower damaged following a tanker explosion.

The affected structure is located around Ashaiman on the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line. GRIDCo said its technical teams will use the outage period to complete the remaining repair works and restore the transmission infrastructure.

The company added that it is coordinating with ECG to minimise the impact of the planned power outage on residents, businesses and other electricity consumers in the affected communities.

GRIDCo has apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the scheduled maintenance and repair works. It has also appealed to residents and businesses to remain patient and understanding while engineers work to restore the transmission line.

The development is expected to affect electricity supply across several busy commercial and residential communities in Accra, making it important for affected customers to make the necessary preparations ahead of the scheduled outage.
