Ghana will establish a new Trade Office in Nanjing, Shandong Province, China, in 2026, according to Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry.

According to her, Ghana and China’s bilateral trade and investment ties are intended to be strengthened and promoted.

When H.E. Tong Defa, the departing Chinese ambassador to Ghana, paid Hon. Ofosu-Adjare a farewell visit in Accra on Thursday, January 22, 2026, she revealed this information.

The Minister thanked Ambassador Tong Defa for his close collaboration with the Ministry during his stay and declared that Ghana is prepared to sign the Zero-Tariff Agreement with China upon receiving the envoy.

Noting that trade in local currencies has already started between the two nations, she praised the Ambassador for his commitment to luring investment into Ghana.

“If we are able to trade in our own currencies, Ghana’s currency will be strengthened, because the bulk of our trading goes to China,” she stated.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare expressed hope about the ongoing improvement of Ghana-China relations and wished Ambassador Tong Defa well in his future aspirations.

Ambassador Tong Defa, for his part, praised the Minister’s efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between China and Ghana.

He expressed confidence that Ghana’s exports to China would rise and disclosed that more Chinese businesses are keen to invest in Ghana.

The Ambassador said, “I am happy that Chinese businesses are doing very well under President Mahama.”
