The Central Mosque in Akweteyman has been inaugurated by President John Dramani Mahama, who has called on Ghanaians of all religions to be together, safe, and cooperative.
Speaking during the event, the president clarified that major structural issues with the mosque’s foundation and pillars had previously caused building to be put on hold. He emphasised that no place of worship should endanger human life and noted that professional counsel was sought to protect the safety of worshippers.
“Once the foundation and pillars were properly strengthened and the structure was certified safe, work resumed and the mosque was completed,” he said.

The mosque was dedicated in honour of Malam Adi Akweteyman during the commissioning ceremony, which President Mahama described as a straightforward but important event.
He prayed that the mosque would be a source of blessing for the residents of Akweteyman and all visitors from nearby and distant places, and that Allah would grant the prayers of everyone who worships there.
He thanked everyone who helped finish the mosque, especially the local Member of Parliament (MP), Theresa Lardi Awuni, also known as Obaanaa, who kept a close eye on the project’s development, as well as other people and organisations whose assistance made it possible.

The mosque, according to the president, is a potent representation of Ghana’s distinctive heritage of interfaith harmony and tolerance.
He emphasised the Christian cleric’s attendance at the event as proof of the nation’s unity between Muslims, Christians, and adherents of traditional African religions.
He prayed for God’s ongoing blessings on the nation’s unity, saying, “You will hardly find this elsewhere, but Ghana is unique. We worship differently, yet we live together in peace,”
