The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has given needy households in OBOGU in the Ashanti Region emergency financial support as part of continuous efforts to increase LEAP coverage and react quickly to critical vulnerability situations.

This intervention comes after Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, visited the community and found serious vulnerabilities in some houses.

In response to concerns raised during that engagement, the Ministry worked with the Asante Akim Municipal Assembly through the LEAP Management Secretariat and the Social Protection Directorate to verify household data using the Ghana Household Registry.

134 homes with vulnerabilities, such as people with disabilities, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), and elderly people without support, were found to be impoverished during the joint validation exercise.

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, impacted households received emergency financial assistance through the LEAP program in accordance with LEAP guidelines.

To guarantee a seamless and open disbursement procedure, the Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, was represented by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah.

Officials from the Ministry and the Head of the LEAP Management Secretariat were also there to oversee the exercise and guarantee adherence to protocol.

It is anticipated that the assistance will protect recipient households from short-term adversity while bolstering their resilience through ongoing social protection initiatives.
