The Ambassador of Israel to Ghana, Roey Gilad, has led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Minister for Defence, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, as the two countries seek to strengthen their longstanding diplomatic relations and cooperation in peace, security and sustainable development.
During the meeting, Ambassador Gilad commended Ghana for its significant contribution to international peacekeeping operations, particularly the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by Ghanaian personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
With the UNIFIL mandate expected to conclude later this year, the Israeli Ambassador expressed appreciation for Ghana’s role and sacrifices in southern Lebanon. He said Ghana’s contribution to peacekeeping efforts remains highly valued by both Israel and the international community.
Israel Proposes Manufacturing Facility in Ghana
Ambassador Gilad also disclosed Israel’s interest in establishing a manufacturing facility in Ghana as part of efforts to deepen bilateral defence cooperation.
According to the Ambassador, the proposed facility could create employment opportunities for Ghanaians, strengthen local industrial capacity and enhance collaboration between Ghana and Israel in the defence sector.
He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to expanding bilateral relations with Ghana and working together to respond to emerging national security and defence challenges.
Ghana, Israel to Strengthen Defence Cooperation
Responding to the delegation, Defence Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei acknowledged the warm and longstanding relationship between Ghana and Israel, expressing confidence that the partnership could be further strengthened.
The Minister highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing, personnel training and institutional capacity building in improving Ghana’s ability to respond to contemporary security threats.
He also called for increased cooperation in strategic areas including surveillance technology, cyber defence and advanced security technologies.
Hon. Adjei identified joint ventures, technical innovation and collaborative research as important avenues for modernising Ghana’s defence architecture while supporting broader national development.
The Defence Minister reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to constructive engagement with Israel and to exploring areas of bilateral defence cooperation that promote mutual interests, strengthen national security and contribute to the development of both countries.
