In 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, the Apostle Paul said “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
This is a common text read at Communion Services which typically evokes some fear and panic, particularly when one isn’t so sure about his relationship with God and has to do some soul searching. It is the verse 23 that I wish to stress. Jesus, the night He was to be betrayed, dined with all including the one who was going to betray Him. Who does this? Dining with the one we clearly know is gonna stab us in the back? This is difficult for man but Jesus who was then a human being like us, did it.
Jesus never sacked Judas but dined with him because, Judas was needed to further the purpose of Jesus. Without Judas, Christ wouldn’t have died to bring salvation to humanity. Sometimes, we need enemies around to push us into our destinies.
One of the fruits of the Spirit of God. is self-control, not control of others. Therefore, it is not so much about seeking to control the negative attitude of others towards us, when we ourselves have major challenges. Let us, so control ourselves and our anger and never seek to control those who seek to betray us. Let us not repay their evil with evil, but like Jesus did, let us repay their evil with good. For through their evil plots and betrayal, they push us into our God-given destinies.
Let us remember again that, Jesus, the night that He was gonna be betrayed, chose to dine with all including the one going to betray Him. Let us forgive those who have hurt and betrayed us and actually show our maturity in Christ by being nice with them.
This is humanly difficult, but God is our Helper.
