Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye has been selected by the 23rd General Assembly (GA) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to serve as the new Moderator.
Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye, who has a PhD in church history and works as a lecturer at the University of Ghana, won the election.
The GA Presbytery Chairperson received 119 out of 276 votes at the 23rd General Assembly’s nomination process, or 52% of the total.
Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong received 22 votes, or 9.6% of the total, and Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi received 54 votes, or 23.6%, to take second place.
The second and third candidates subsequently withdrew, leaving Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye up for a “Yes” or “No” vote.
270 “YES” votes, or 97% of the total, were cast in favor by the General Assembly, while only 6 “NO” votes, or 3% of the total, were cast.
The 19th Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana will be Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye.
Rev. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante is succeeded by him.
