Togo became Cameroon’s second-largest source of imports in the second quarter of 2025, driven primarily by petroleum products, as Cameroon’s import flows remained highly concentrated among a small group of trading partners, according to data from the National Shippers’ Council of Cameroon (CNCC).

Imports recorded at the ports of Douala and Kribi between April and June 2025 revealed that only 11 countries accounted for 69% of the total value of commodities entering the country.

China retained its position as Cameroon’s biggest supplier, accounting for 20%, followed by Togo at 15%. The CNCC reported that India, Belgium, and France each accounted for approximately 7%.

Although China’s dominance is a reflection of its wide range of exports, recent changes involving Togo and Nigeria were especially noteworthy, as both nations witnessed significant increases in shipments to Cameroon that were nearly completely attributable to petroleum oils and oils derived from bituminous materials.

Cameroon imported commodities from Togo totalling CFA167.39 billion in the second quarter of 2025, up 31% from CFA127.66 billion during the same period in 2024.

Additionally, import volumes increased from 245,072 tonnes to 283,175 tonnes.

The majority of this growth was attributed to petroleum products. According to CNCC data, Togo’s imports of petroleum and bituminous mineral oils increased to CFA162.7 billion in the second quarter of 2025 from CFA119.7 billion the previous year.

Lomé’s increasing importance in Cameroon’s energy supply chain is highlighted by the category’s current dominance of trade flows along the Togo–Cameroon corridor.
