Star Oil Ghana Limited has announced its decision to rejoin the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) after suspending its membership earlier in 2026.

The oil marketing company said it is returning to the industry body while calling for reforms to COMAC’s governance structure to promote fair representation and stronger participation among members.

In a letter dated October 1, 2026, and addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of COMAC, Star Oil confirmed that its membership would resume following several months of suspension.

The company had withdrawn its participation in January 2026, citing concerns about the Chamber’s operations and how effectively it represented the interests of oil marketing companies in Ghana.

Star Oil Explains Decision to Rejoin COMAC

The letter, signed by Star Oil CEO Philip Tieku, explained that consultations with other oil marketing companies and key stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector influenced the company’s decision to return to COMAC.

According to the company, appeals from fellow COMAC members also contributed to its decision to reconsider its earlier position.

Star Oil said its return is intended to support continued engagement within the Ghana petroleum industry while encouraging discussions on reforms that could improve the Chamber’s governance and representation.

Call for Reforms in Ghana’s Oil Marketing Sector

The development comes amid ongoing discussions about effective industry representation and governance within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

Star Oil’s call for reforms highlights the importance of ensuring that oil marketing companies have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting the fuel market, petroleum products and energy sector.

The company’s return is expected to renew engagement among COMAC members as stakeholders work toward strengthening collaboration within Ghana’s oil marketing industry.
