The alleged murder of a tenant by his landlord over a dispute over a GH¢30 electricity bill has shocked the residents of Medie Ketewa, a community in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Opoku Agyemang, 37, was reportedly stabbed to death on Tuesday during a fight with his landlord, Kofi Koranteng.
Opoku, a married guy with three kids, reportedly owes his landlord GH¢30 in energy payments.
Residents were even more shocked by the episode because, according to neighborhood sources, the two men were not just in a landlord-tenant relationship but also close friends and longtime coworkers.
It’s still unclear, according to witnesses, what specifically set off the furious altercation over the unpaid payment.
According to an eyewitness, Enoch Idan Danquah, the landlord summoned Opoku into his room to discuss the issue because he was dissatisfied with the way Opoku handled paying the electrical bills.
But after the landlord allegedly brought out a machete and repeatedly stabbed Opoku, the conversation allegedly descended into violence.
Following the event, the suspect, 50-year-old Kofi Koranteng, who is purportedly the father of five children, allegedly left the scene.
Since then, the police have been informed of the situation, and Kotoku Police Command officers have transported the body to the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
