A tragic occurrence occurred in the Assin Awiafitaamu hamlet near Ketukrom in the Central Region’s Assin North District, when a missing boy was discovered lifeless in a nearby bush after five days of searching.
Nana Yaw, a two-and-a-half-year-old, reportedly vanished on May 13, 2026, causing dread and anxiety among his family and neighbors, who made desperate attempts to find him.
After all efforts to locate the toddler failed, Godwin Tettey Amanor, Nana Yaw’s grandfather, filed a report with the police on May 15.
Information acquired indicates that after his grandma allegedly went for the farm, the child was left at home with his two siblings. But when she got back, the boy wasn’t there.
Concerned about his disappearance, family members and neighbors launched a thorough search while local information centers in nearby villages made announcements in the hopes of locating him.
On May 17 at approximately 4:39 p.m., a party of hunters reportedly discovered the child’s body under bushes while on a hunting expedition, tragically ending the search.
Additionally, investigators learned that the hunters, who lived in Assin Kushea, came upon the body while using hunting dogs to track game close to Papa Magye’s hamlet.
Before the issue was reported to the police, the hunters were alleged to have contacted the locals right away, who then told the family.
To start looking into the circumstances surrounding the event, a group of officers headed by ASP Charles Akugre, the District Crime Officer, attended the scene at Assin Awiafitaamu.
According to police sources who spoke to Graphic Online, the body was discovered approximately two kilometers from the location where the youngster was reported missing and approximately 0.5 kilometers from a cottage that was allegedly owned by a man known only as Papa Magye.
The child, wearing violet pants and an orange shirt, was discovered sleeping on his back. Investigators reportedly found apparent injuries, such as marks on the skull and other body parts, during their initial assessment.
A few feet from the body’s location, a pair of rubber slippers that may have belonged to the deceased was also located.
The bodies were sent to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu after being documented and photographed at the scene.
