The Special Prosecutor’s custody of the funds belonging to the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, will be up for review before the Financial Division of the High Court in Accra on August 31, 2023.
In compliance with section 38 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), the Special Prosecutor had frozen seven of Dapaah’s bank accounts that contained both domestic and foreign currency while inquiries into alleged corruption and crimes related to corruption were ongoing.
In response to a letter they sent to two banks, the OSP decided to force the banks to freeze Dapaah’s accounts and investments until the order is lifted or expires.
On July 24, 2023, the OSP searched Dapaah’s home as part of their investigation and discovered more over US$590,000 and GH2.730,000 there.
After Dapaah and her husband allegedly had their personal belongings, over $1 million, €300,000, and numerous millions of cedis stolen, the OSP launched an investigation.
In the wake of the outcry, Dapaah abruptly quit her job. She was later detained by the OSP but was eventually released on bail.
The conclusion of the OSP’s investigation into Dapaah’s suspected corruption and related offenses, as well as what happens to her frozen accounts and assets, will be decided during the hearing in front of the High Court.
