Today, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the Electoral Commission (EC) claims it is prepared to hold the nationwide Council of State Elections.
Every regional capital will host the election of regional members to the Council of State.
The regional coordination councils in the various regional capitals started at 07:00, and it is to end at 17:00.
According to Mr. Fred Tetteh, the EC’s Deputy Director of Research, all election-related supplies and logistics have been sent out.
Across the 16 areas, 154 candidates are running, 144 of them are men, and 10 of them are women. Regarding the Electoral College, Mr. Tetteh stated that 522 voters comprised the electoral college and were anticipated to cast ballots in the nationwide elections.
Each zone would have a single voting center. Two representatives chosen by the district assemblies from each of the region’s districts make up the electoral college.
He claimed that even though the elections were supposed to end at 1700 hours, the Commission had given its regional officers an “administrative directive” to close the polls if every voter on the register cast a ballot before the polls officially closed.
When the polls close, the winners will be announced at the polling places. Only ten of the 155 people who chose to submit nomination forms are female.
In the Greater Accra, Volta, Western North, Bono East, Oti, Upper West, Savannah, Northern, North East, and Upper East areas, no women showed interest in the elections, according to data made public by the EC.
While the Central, Ahafo, and Bono regions each had one woman, the Eastern Region had the most—three—while the Western and Ashanti regions each had two.
In order to guarantee responsible and accountable governance, the 30-member Council of State advises the President, State Ministers, Parliament, and other government organizations.
