A powerful delegation of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Members of Parliament, led by Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Linda Ocloo, presented a variety of food items to the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) in support of this year’s Homowo Festival, which is being celebrated this weekend.

H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the president, received the donation, which included 100 bags of maize, 100 gallons of palm oil, 128 crates of beer, 89 crates of Guinness, Malt, and soft drinks, 23 cartons of Castle Bridge and Schnapps, and an undisclosed sum of money.

Prior to the presentation, Hon. Ocloo expressed gratitude to the GTC for accommodating the group at such short notice and expressed the President’s wish for a successful and peaceful festival.

She clarified that the gesture was a part of the government’s efforts to encourage community cohesion and support cultural heritage preservation.

In addition to expressing gratitude to the President, the Regional Minister, MPs, the Mayor of Accra, the MMDCEs, and other dignitaries, the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who received the items, also offered condolences to the government and the families impacted by the recent military helicopter crash.

In order to guarantee that every household could participate in this year’s festivities, he promised that the items would be distributed equitably.

Speaking after the presentation in an interview, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey urged that the Homowo celebration be marked with peace and unity, free from any form of distraction.

He disclosed that the Metro Security Council would meet on Thursday to firm up strategies on measures to ensure security during the festival, particularly in areas considered high-risk.

The Mayor appealed to residents to protect their land and community by refraining from actions that could undermine peace and development and instead work together towards the progress of the Ga state.

He emphasised the importance of the Homowo festival as a unifying force and called on all Ga indigenes and residents of Accra to participate fully in the festivities while maintaining harmony.

Gbese, Asere, Abola, Otublohun, and Sempe are among the eight clans under the Ga Traditional Council that would benefit from this generous gesture from the President, which is being conveyed through the Regional Minister and the Mayor.

Many dignitaries attended the event, including Hon. Ashie Kotey, MP for Odododiodio; Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, MP for Ablekuma South and former Accra Mayor; Hon. Dr. Michael Mensah, MCE for Ayawaso West; Hon. Edmund Agbo, MCE for Ga East; Hon. Kalamu Musa, MCE for Ablekuma North; MCE for Korle Klottey; Hon. Alfred Allotey-Gaisie; Hon. Nii Djamgma Vanderpuye, former Greater Accra Regional Minister; and a few party executives.
