The Ministry of Finance has granted the Ministry of Health financial authorisation to pay salaries and allowances to 637 medical and dental house officers and 14,279 rotating nurses and midwives.

The clearance comes after ongoing discussions between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health to guarantee that newly qualified health professionals receive the necessary assistance while completing their required professional training and service.

Key nursing cadres covered by the clearance include registered general nurses, registered midwives, registered mental health nurses, registered community health nurses, and registered public health nurses who began their rotation last year and are scheduled to finish this year.

Additionally, 637 Medical and Dental House Officers who graduated from various public and private institutions, passed the Medical and Dental Council examinations, and were inducted into service on November 12, 2025, have had their salaries approved financially.

These approvals will eliminate any payment backlogs from past years and pave the way for the Ministry’s new policy of ensuring monthly payments of allowances for mandated service for all health professional cadres.

Instead of accrued remuneration at the end of their work, particularly nurses, chemists and Allied Health Professionals.

The Ministry will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that health professionals receive adequate support in providing quality healthcare services to Ghanaians.
