The newly established Board of Directors of the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC) was inaugurated by Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry. She urged members to uphold the Commission’s mission of fostering fair competition and shielding Ghanaian businesses from unfair trade practices.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare stressed the GITC’s vital role in guaranteeing equity and transparency in Ghana’s international trade system during his speech at the inauguration ceremony in Accra on November 6, 2025.
She pointed out that the Commission plays a crucial role in settling trade disputes, looking into unfair trade practices, and protecting regional businesses from the negative impacts of international competition.
“The GITC must remain vigilant in protecting our domestic market from anti-competitive and unfair external trade practices,” the Minister stated.
“Your work is essential in creating a fair and predictable trade environment that supports industrial growth and economic transformation.” She stated.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare urged the six (6)-member board to work closely with the Trade Ministry and relevant stakeholders to connect their efforts with the government’s larger industrialisation and export promotion goal.
She emphasised the significance of increasing capacity for trade remedy investigations and ensuring Ghana’s compliance with international trade accords.
The new Board Chair, Mr. Felix Tawia Yaw Akyea, on behalf of the Board, expressed gratitude to the Minister and President for their trust in them and committed to uphold honesty and professionalism in carrying out the Commission’s duty.
“We are deeply honoured by this appointment and fully aware of the critical role the GITC plays in Ghana’s trade and industrial development,” the Chairperson said.
“The Board will work diligently to ensure that Ghana’s trade policies and practices remain transparent, competitive, and aligned with international standards.Together, we will strengthen the Commission’s capacity to deliver on its objectives and contribute meaningfully to national economic growth.”

The Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC) was established to promote and enforce fair trade practices, undertake trade remedy investigations, and guarantee Ghana’s international trade complies with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.
