Three individuals have been taken into custody by the police in connection with an attempted robbery of a gold-buying business in Akoon-Tarkwa, Western Region.

On April 18, 2023, the suspects Ezekiel Stephen Oghenekaro, Samuel Amoashie, and Fatawu Awudu raided the gold buying store with the help of three other suspects who were armed. They fled with an undisclosed sum of money.

The day after the incident, the Police began an operation against the gang and made three arrests in the area of the bush near the townships of Esuosu and Benso.

Three motorcycles and a sack loaded with an undefined sum of money thought to be the loot from their raid on the shop were found after they were searched in the wilderness.

All of the accused were later brought before the Tarkwa District Court on April 21, 2023, and were remanded into safe custody with a court date of May 3, 2023, set for their next appearance.

The police are currently conducting an intelligence operation to apprehend the remaining gang members.
