Seven individuals have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service in relation to a highway robbery that took place along the Tamale–Buipe route last year. One of the victims was a member of the Council of State.

On January 11, 2026, the suspects, Rashida Yussif, Aaron Abaana, Wilson Abasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, Aminu Zibrilla, Innusa Sumaila, and Haruna Safianu, were taken into custody.

Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, told the media on Thursday, January 29, at the Police Headquarters in Accra that the event is still being looked into.

“On 21st July 2025, the victim was travelling along the Tamale–Buipe highway when he was attacked by six armed men who robbed him of personal belongings, including mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, laptops, and other items,” she said.

COP Donkor further revealed that five individuals linked to another robbery attack in Nkasei, Ahafo Region, were apprehended on January 16, 2026, as part of a different intelligence operation.

“On a separate operation, five suspects, Muta Kofi, Mahamadu Sajoe alias Salifu, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman, and Bukari Sule alias Taylor, were arrested on different days in connection with a robbery at Nkasei in the Ahafo Region. On 2nd December 2025, the suspects, together with other accomplices armed with weapons, blocked the Goaso–Tepa road.”

The CID Director-General advised the public to remain watchful, prioritise their personal safety, and avoid sharing sensitive information with strangers as police continue to crack down on criminal activity around the country.
