Two people are feared dead following a fire outbreak at the North Industrial Area branch of Duraplast Ghana in Accra in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026.
One of the reported victims is said to be a two-week-old baby, although the identities of those feared dead and the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
Gas Cylinder Explosion Suspected
An eyewitness has suggested that the Accra fire incident may have been caused by an exploding gas cylinder.
According to the eyewitness, the incident occurred within the industrial area, where flames and thick smoke were reportedly seen coming from the affected premises.
The fire raised concern among workers, residents and other people in the surrounding community as the flames and smoke spread through the area.
An eyewitness identified as Mohammed said a woman had been cooking for her children before leaving the gas cylinder under the supervision of one of them.
He alleged that the child later increased the gas supply, after which the cylinder exploded and triggered the fire.
