The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has launched an operation to arrest suspected accomplices in Ghana following the detention of a Syrian national in Lebanon over an alleged cocaine smuggling operation involving drugs transported through Accra International Airport.

The suspect was arrested at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after arriving from Accra with approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage.

In a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, NACOC confirmed that investigations were ongoing in Ghana to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of participating in the international drug trafficking operation.

The statement, signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, Francis Opoku Amoah, disclosed that the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese drug enforcement authorities.

According to NACOC, the joint operation was designed to identify suspects operating at different stages of the drug supply chain, gather intelligence and dismantle the wider international criminal network responsible for the shipment.

The Commission emphasised that intelligence-sharing and operational cooperation between Ghana and Lebanon played a crucial role in the successful arrest.

NACOC further reaffirmed its commitment to working with international law enforcement agencies to combat cocaine trafficking, organised drug crime and cross-border smuggling networks.

The ongoing investigations are expected to help authorities identify the suspected local accomplices and establish the full extent of the alleged international drug trafficking operation.
