Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate, gave a stirring speech to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) diasporan branch in Accra after the party lost the general elections in 2024.
Speaking to party members at his official home, he underlined that in order to advance the party, unity and a thorough reconstruction process are essential.
Bawumia expressed his worries over the absence of important party members, many of whom stayed at home because of unsolved issues, while acknowledging the difficulties the party encountered during the election.
“Unity must be the main focus as the party works to heal and regroup,” Bawumia said, emphasizing that “our core members stayed home because they had issues.” “We must remain united, and that is crucial.”
Bawumia urged careful consideration of the party’s current situation and hinted that a total makeover might be required.
“Whatever we need to change, we have to change. We have to regroup, staying united,” he urged, highlighting the need for every member to contribute to the rebuilding process.
Bawumia’s call for an end to the blame game that has been dividing the party was a major component of his speech. “We also have to stop the blame game.” He emphasized the value of shared goals and joint accountability above finger-pointing, saying “the blame game doesn’t bring unity,”
With an eye on the future, Bawumia said he was confident the NPP would bounce back and win the next election.
“I believe that we are going to beat the NDC in 2028,” he added. “Everything that needs to be changed as part of our rebuilding has to be done.”
“Don’t be downhearted, we have work to do, we need your support as we go forward in the next few years.” he urged party members to remain inspired and helpful, his optimism unflinching.
