NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia has revealed that he has not ruled out contesting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 Ghana general elections, stating that he will announce his decision when the time is appropriate.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews’ One-on-One hosted by Evans Mensah, Asiedu Nketia emphasized that he remains open to serving the party in any capacity.
“I have never ruled any position out,” he stated.
The veteran politician explained that any decision on whether to seek another term as NDC National Chairman would only be made after the party concludes its internal elections.
Addressing speculation that his ongoing Thank You Tour is part of a campaign to position himself for a future presidential bid, Asiedu Nketia firmly rejected the claim.
“I don’t need a Thank-You Tour to sell myself,” he said.
He reiterated that if he decides to contest the NDC presidential primaries, he will officially declare his intentions “when the time is up.”
As preparations gradually begin for the 2028 presidential election in Ghana, Asiedu Nketia has emerged as one of several prominent figures being mentioned as potential NDC flagbearer candidates. Other names frequently discussed include Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has already selected former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate after naming him the party’s flagbearer in January 2026.
Political analysts expect discussions around the NDC’s presidential race to intensify as the party approaches its internal electoral process and preparations for the 2028 national elections.
