On Friday, May 26, 2023, President Akufo-Addo officially opened the Elmina Fishing Port Project, which will significantly increase Elmina’s fishing industry in the Central Region.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Akufo-Addo congratulated the residents of Elmina for believing in his government to complete the project, whose sod he cut on August 20, 2020, and thanked them once more for not paying attention to the doubters.

He recounted how John Dramani Mahama, the previous president, traveled to Elmina four months after he had chopped the sod and labeled the fishing harbor “a sakawa fishing harbour” when he visited in December.

Mr. Akufo-Addo claims that Mr. Mahama was certain in his assertions that the construction of the Elmina Harbour would never take place.

He added, “It’s just as well he’s not God, and I’m equally happy that he, along with all the doubters, are alive today to witness President Akufo-Addo commissioning the Elmina Fishing Port.”

The Elmina Fishing Port Project, which complements Tema and Sekondi-Takoradi’s two existing fishing ports, marks an important milestone.

The President continued by saying that his administration is also on schedule to finish construction on the Jamestown Fishing Port, bringing the nation’s total number of fishing ports to four.

He stated that his government is unwavering in its commitment to policies and programs that encourage the expansion of the fish industry.
