Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the overwhelming favourite to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the general election in 2028, according to a recent tracking poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics.
The poll indicates that 57% of people favour Dr. Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate, while 29% favour Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former MP for Assin Central.
Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong received 3%, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum received 6%, and former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong received 5%.
Dr. Bawumia also holds a commanding 57% advantage in the crucial swing areas of Greater Accra, Central, and Western, with Kennedy Agyapong coming in second at 32%.
Kwabena Agyapong received 3%, while Drs. Adutwum and Acheampong each received 4%.
The survey also shows that Kennedy Agyapong would lose against Dr. Bawumia by 38%, while Dr. Bawumia would increase his lead by 62% in a matchup.
Kennedy Agyapong is in last place with 17% of the NPP delegates, while Dr. Bawumia is still well ahead with 47%. 3% and 1% went to Drs. Acheampong and Adutwum, respectively, while Kwabena Agyapong also earned 1%.
But 27% of delegates are still unsure, while 4% chose not to express a choice.
Dr. Bawumia commands 49% in a runoff scenario in the delegates’ poll, while Kennedy Agyapong receives 19%, 27% are unsure, and 5% choose not to declare.
